Day 6

Day 6 of Lochlan’s leukaemia treatment.

Today was a better day. Lochlan had a good night’s sleep last night, & woke up more rested than I’ve seen him in a long time. We had a quiet morning together with Mitch here to do coffee and a breakfast run for us.

The doctor came in to share that things are looking really good so far. His bloodwork is looking great, his counts are low, his temperature is normal, & blood pressure is perfect. Now it’s a matter of mobility. Lochlan’s nerves in his toes are still hurting him, & as he did a physical exam with the doc he started to cry. The doc thought it was because it hurt, but I could see it was because he was frustrated and disappointed in his lack of strength & ability, so I communicated that to the doctor. It takes a few days for the medicine to kick in so we’re hopeful that it will provide relief soon.

We enjoyed an extended lunch outside in the garden today. It was good for all of our spirits. Nature is so healing, truly.

The afternoon brought freedom from the IV! Lochlan has had nearly 5 hours of no IV now (and counting). With that small win, he decided to try walking down the hallway & did wonderfully. He still didn’t use his toes a lot, but he was mobile & felt capable & that was another boost for him.

Sadly, we had to say goodbye to Mitch as he had to head back home for Luke, & for work. Goodbyes are never easy, & I know the 3 hour drive is tiring, but worth it. He has been super dad to both boys through this, & I am so grateful for all he does for us.

Again, we wish we could all just be back together as one complete family again, but we will hang on a little longer.

It’s been 2 full weeks since I’ve seen ,hugged & cuddled Luke & my heart is absolutely broken about it, but I cannot leave Lochlan. Holding on to hope that it’ll only be about a week more before we go home & I can hold my biggest little man again.

As for all of the continued prayers and well wishes, they’re carrying us through & I can’t thank you enough 💙
