Day 22

Today was our first appointment at our home hospital. He had a physical + chemo today. He was, understandably, nervous but he did so well. He is brave + as he says, “I don’t really have a choice, so just do what you have to do, + get it over with.” His blood pressure, temperature, blood oxygen levels etc, were great. His bloodwork came back looking great… platelets, hemoglobin, + neutrophils were all where they needed to be, thank God. He gained a pound (0.5 kg) since Friday, but they still have it written on his chart that he should get a feeding tube— they are making me meet with the dietician on Friday when we go for our next bloodwork appointment. It’s a battle I will continue to fight, as Lochlan is eating over 4000 nutritive calories a day now, has no mouth sores or issues affecting his eating, so it doesn’t make sense to have him on synthetic, cancer-feeding liquid diet, + put him through the trauma + susceptibility for infection, etc. This momma will fight for what I know truly is best for my son, + it is not what they are pushing with regards to nourishment.

When we got back home Lochlan + Luke enjoyed some time together, just hanging out as brothers. It’s nice for them both to reconnect after so long apart. Luke also was super proud because he had his first morning home alone (he’s 12 and has been wanting to stay home alone for a while now).

It was a beautiful cool day so we did lots of outside time, simply breathing in the fresh country air, grounding, eating homegrown food from the garden (grapes + peas were Lochlan’s favourites), + getting some vit D from the sun. We spent time talking about how lucky we are to live where we live + how beautiful it is at home. We said even if he never had cancer we’d still be doing the same thing— finding normalcy, + living, despite the diagnosis.

As it’s chemo day, detox is top of the priority list- lots of liquids to flush the chemo out, lots of fibre to poop it out, castor oil pack to support the liver, detox foot bath, + essential oils too.

One more week until this induction phase is over. The countdown is on.
