Welcoming Autumn: A Simple Guide for Families

There’s something about the first crisp mornings of autumn that makes me want to slow down. The air carries a new sharpness, the trees begin to dress in fire and gold, and everything seems to whisper: “Gather in, take notice, and treasure this season.”

In our home, autumn has always been a time of rhythm and togetherness. Lighting candles a little earlier in the evening. Taking walks to watch the colors change. Bringing the harvest to the table in the form of soups, crisps, and warm breads. It’s these small rituals—the everyday ones—that anchor us as the days grow shorter.

This year, I wanted to gather some of those simple seasonal treasures and share them with you. I’ve created a Seasonal Autumn Guide for Families. It's a gentle collection of verses, a handcraft, a recipe, and a nature activity that you can weave into your days. Nothing complicated, nothing overwhelming, just little touchstones of rhythm and wonder that help us all remember the beauty right outside our doors.

Inside the guide, you’ll find:

  • A short autumn verse to bring into your family’s rhythm.

  • Instructions for making a cozy leaf lantern to light your evenings.

  • A wholesome Harvest Apple Crisp recipe to bake together.

  • A Color Walk nature activity to help children notice the beauty of the season.

  • A reflection page for parents to pause and gather their own “harvest” of gratitude.

This guide is for families who want to celebrate the turning of the season in simple, meaningful ways. Whether you homeschool, follow a Waldorf-inspired rhythm, or just want to bring more nature and connection into your home, my hope is that this little guide will meet you right where you are.

As we step into this new season together, may these small practices bring warmth, steadiness, and joy into your autumn days. For my free "circle" time for kids ages 3-7ish head to September or October or November .
